Water Baptism on the Mountain

More and more people choose to be be baptized in water on the Mountain. Recently we received a call from Mary Gonzalez asking to be baptized in the campus cross-shaped baptismal pool. We rarely refuse such requests so we set a date of July 7th for the event. It was a joyous time. A few days after the water baptism the testimony below appeared on Facebook. It is reprinted here by permission of the author.

Mary’s Testimony

Yesterday was a big day for me! So I want to give fair warning this is a long, emotional post..

Yesterday, July 7th, marks the day of my re-birth! “Water Baptism is an outward symbol of an inner change.”

I spent many years being a self-proclaimed non-believer (which now makes me cringe 🥴) and then I became a mom. After I had Rowan, I truly started to question everything. It wasn’t until my beautiful friend Courtney explained to me it’s all about the relationship with Jesus and that He never expects us to be perfect. With seeing all of the dark in this world, I just knew there had to be light.

Not too long ago I picked up a Bible with the intention of just educating myself without realizing it was going to change my life! I spent too many years trying to convince myself such things weren’t possible or didn’t happen. The more I read, the more I realized the truth was always right in my face. It takes more energy to deny Christ than to surrender to Him and all of his goodness. I know others may feel differently because I was once there myself, but I just wanted to share my story just in case anyone feels on the fence like I did. Grab that Bible and just start reading it. Start small. Educate yourself before listening to others. If you open your mind and heart, He will speak to you. I am so glad I started listening.

A huge thank you to <Campus> Chaplain Mark Malizzi for baptizing me yesterday and allowing me to start fresh and leave the old Mary behind. I am very excited for this new journey in my life! Thank you to those at Laurel Mountain Ministries for hosting this life changing event for me! I couldn’t picture a more beautiful place to have this done. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. It truly means the world to me!

Thank you to everyone who was there! The people who supported me getting to this point. Answering all of my questions, reassuring and encouraging me when I felt lost, and showing me nothing but love and acceptance with zero judgement. I know it took me awhile to come around (sorry Courtney, Julz and Chris 😝) but now I am overjoyed! So many emotions yesterday and I may or may not still be crying looking back over these photos 😂

I could go on forever about this event but I just want to say God is so good! ♥️ Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe it..
